Scribble Maps

Scribble Maps

Monday 15 August 2011

We will be using this technological interactive tool to map our excursion trip from school to the hospital.
Think about the best route the bus could take and bring the directions to class on Tuesday.

Wednesday 17 August 2011

During our Technology lesson yesterday we used the tool Scribble Maps to look at three different routes the bus could use to take us to the hospital for our excursion.

Cameron's suggestion is Route 1. Down Main Street across the Forgan Bridge and up Sams Road.
Beth's suggestion is Route 2.     Down Bridge Road across Hospital Bridge and up Heaths Road.
Greg's suggestion is Route 3.   Along Bruce Hwy, across Ron Camm Bridge and up Sams Road.

In your preassigned groups use a PMI to consider your groups' route.
  • Think about what  are the PLUSES for your route,
  • what are the MINUSES about the route and
  • what is INTERESTING about your route.
Groups will present their PMI table  in class on Thursday and we will vote on the best response.

Thursday 18 August 2011

The most popular Route is Beth's suggestion - Route 2.

Plus
Minus
Interesting
·         Shortest route  (by RACQ trip planner online tool)
·         Less traffic than Bruce Hwy route
·         Less time sitting on the bus.
·         Less traffic lights.
·         Scenery is boring.
·         May be smoke from cane fires as it is a rural area.
·         Go past the construction area at the Base Hospital.
·         May be cane fires as it is a rural area.

Friday 19 August 2011

Before Monday write the directions from the school to the hospital as if you were telling someone who was new to  Mackay.

Use the Scribble Map tool  and also record landmarks and descriptors you noted during the excursion.

Example: Turn right into Heaths Road at the roundabout, there will be a pink pig made out of hay on your right and cane fields on the left.

The internet rules the students follow are listed in the School Newsletter and you  can access further Cyber Safety information at the following website to share with your child/ren. CyberSmart Kids If you have any concerns or questions please speak to your child/ren's teacher.

SOSE: Our "Water Uses" Word Cloud.

Today we discussed the ways we use water.  Each student wrote three ways they use water and we  entered this data into Wordle. The image above demonstrates the responses of our class. The larger the word the more times it was written.
Using this image answer the following questions-
  • What were the three most popular uses of water?
  • What were the three least popular uses of water?
  • Which of these uses, in your opinion, could we live without and why?
  • Which of these uses, in your opinion, would require the most water and why?
  • Write three ideas for saving water they you could start doing today?
Please bring your written responses to the above questions to our next SOSE lesson on Thursday 25 August 2011.

Following Joshua's Travel Blog

Joshua and his family are going on holidays traveling to all the Australian capital cities.
Joshua's parents have advised they will send us postcards and emails to stay in touch and we can follow their trip on our class blog.

We will be tracking Joshua's trip on the map of Australia displayed on the rear wall of the class.
Students will take turns to mark the map so we can record what cities he has visited.

  • Drag the person icon to the map so you can see the Opera House up close.
If you are successful with this task try searching for the other Sydney landmarks that Joshua mentions in his email.
